And it is about time! We went from two inches of snow one day to sunny and 51 degrees the next, but it seems to be the end of the bad weather and now we have warm rain with a few dry spells but mostly rain. The nice thing is that the flowers are starting to bloom and the trees are starting to leaf. So I thought I would post a few snaps of what is in bloom around the gardens and the greenhouse.

Under the canopy of the Coast Redwood our bed of Acanthus has stayed green and lush. Most Years around February they look like cooked lettuce laying in a gooey mess on the ground. |

A while back I posted that I was re-landscaping the back of the property to afford me a larger vegetable garden, I had planted this row of Spanish Onions two days before it snowed but they seem to show no suffering. I grow my vegetables in mounded beds with walkways that are about a foot in width, any rock or broken concrete gets placed in the paths. I have a penchant for cobalt blue so I place blue wine bottles over the re bar that marks the ends of pathways. |

My last post I have a photo of these very same Magnolia blooms covered in snow, well they made it through and the fragrance is intoxicating.

Rhododendron 'Christmas Cheer'

The Hellebore's are very nice this year |

These double Narcissus I got in a grab bag and then forgot to plant them. When summer came I was cleaning out the garden shed and found them fairly dried up but planted them anyway and voila!

Beallara 'Tropic Splendor - Everglades' a very fragrant orchid |
Very pretty flowers - add so much colour to any garden.
ReplyDeleteThanks John,
DeleteWhen the tulips start to bloom is when you know spring is at it's best. That is probably another week away.
My first rose bloomed! March, unheard of. Great photos, Doc!
ReplyDeleteAmazing, while mine are just starting to show spring growth.
DeleteYour flowers are always gorgeous, Doc. Thanks for sharing your gardens with us.
ReplyDeleteHope you all have a wonderful weekend! :o)
Thanks Linda, you are a sweet heart. Have a great weekend.
DeleteWell it's all looking wonderful now, Doc. I am so impressed by your knowledge - most of my plants get called, 'thingumijig' or 'what'sit'sname'!
ReplyDeleteLovely tributes to your brothers' dogs. Our canine friends occupy such a big part of our hearts.
Rosemary,
DeleteThanks so much for the comments. Blogger has not been allowing me to leave comments on your posts until yesterdays. My son checked out my computer and said it was probably because of the thingamajig is set up with the what'sit'sname. And hopefully he has taken care of both ;o/
Doc
You really are full speed ahead into spring!! What a beautiful and stunning start, especially for the Rhododendrons!!
