Mema's Ladies

Mema's Ladies as the pampered hens of Menagerie Manor are referred to generally live long prosperous lives. Over the thirty some years that we have kept egg layers we have had some surprises in the egg industry. In the first picture we have a normal days gathering of eggs, very nice indeed girls! Then.....

.........on the left a normal size egg and on the right.....oops....short changed by a four year old Barred Rock

Once again the egg on the left ...... normal. And then the egg on the right laid by a six year old Rhode Island Red who was after this incident aptly renamed Peanut.

  1. Hahahahaha!!!!! Peanut indeed. I was going to ask if the hen had eaten too many of them before laying. ;)

The other one is mostly normal, if a bit small. :)

Have a great weekend and thanks for sharing the pictures with us. :)

  2. Glad you liked it Linda, it was such a shock to find it in the nest and very tricky to blow the contents out in order to preserve the egg. You have a great weekend as well. I probably will not be posting anything for a week as we are off to our summer cabin for complete rest and relaxation.

  4. My wife is a Librarian at the local High School and has several of her Senior students that love to stay in our home and they do a very good job of looking after the critters and water the gardens and greenhouse. Quite a lot to take care of, and in case of emergency we are only an hour away.

  6. My farmer neighbor has some bantams. One of the bantams keeps laying turkey sized eggs. I know that's gotta hurt!

  7. Randy,
I once put some Peacock eggs under an industrious little Bantam, I think she was just happy to sit on them thinking she at least wasn't asked to pass the big buggers.:o)
